Michael Davis is a contemporary artist based in Queen Creek, Arizona. His work centers on the human figure as a site of memory, struggle, witness, and becoming.
His current body of work moves through large-scale figurative drawings and sculptural portraits. In these works, the body becomes a vessel, the pose becomes a kind of poetry, and the shadow becomes a field where hidden narrative, emotional residue, and spiritual tension begin to surface.
Davis is interested in what lingers beneath what is easily seen: the in-between space of memory, identity, belief, grief, resilience, and transformation. Rather than offering clear answers, the work asks the viewer to stay with the encounter. The figure may be seen first, but meaning is revealed slowly through posture, shadow, proximity, and
time.
Rooted in drawing, portraiture, and a deep respect for lived experience, his work explores the body not as a fixed image, but as a threshold. Each piece becomes an invitation to witness the visible form and search for the unseen life carried within it.
The works are not meant to resolve into simple conclusions. They are meant to remain present — lingering as body, shadow, image, and memory long after the encounter has ended.
